When root canal therapy isn’t enough to heal your infected tooth, your endodontist may recommend a type of endodontic microsurgery in Midlothian called an apicoectomy. This procedure involves the removal of the tip of your tooth’s root and other traces of infection in your gum tissue. Let’s talk about what you can do to prepare for this dental procedure.

What You Can Do To Prepare for Your Apicoectomy Procedure

Ask Questions

You probably have a ton of questions in your head. The best way to calm your nerves is to get the answers you need about the procedure, your recovery, and the benefits and risks. Since your endodontist wants you to feel well-informed and confident before your surgery, be sure to ask questions!

Read Your Pre-op Instructions

Make sure you carefully read the list of instructions your endodontist provides you prior to your appointment. You’ll want to know how to prepare for your anesthesia and other matters that are specific to your procedure.

Pick Up Any Medications in Advance

Since you’ll need to be in full recovery mode after your surgery, you won’t be able to leave the house to pick up your medication. Before your appointment, be sure to head to the pharmacy to pick up the medications you’ll need to speed up your recovery process.

Pick Up the Groceries

Since you’ll need to stick to a soft diet for a few days following your surgery, be sure to pick up the groceries to help you through your recovery period.

Arrange Transportation

You won’t be able to drive yourself home until the effects of the anesthesia wear off. For this reason, it’s best to ask a family member or a friend to drive you to and from your appointment. If they’re not available to bring you, you’ll have to wait at your endodontist’s office until it’s safe for you to call Uber.
